Age Range You Feel Most Comfortable With:
I am comfortable with all ages. I have worked with students as young as Kindergarten and as old as their late 20’s. Anyone can learn to read!
Why did you decide to become a CALT?
As mentioned above, I taught special education for 3 years. I found myself struggling to know how to help my students. I was a BRAND new teacher at the time and had only 1 college course to “teach” me how to teach students to read. I was drowning and afraid of failing my students. When I had the opportunity to start CALT training I was a little hesitant but excited at the same time. When I was about 2 months into training, I was completely bought in! This was AMAZING! Ever since then I have loved being a CALT and working with students with dyslexia and learning differences.
Favorite moment working with dyslexic students?
My favorite moments are when students see the whole picture, the light bulb comes on, and students are confident in their reading abilities. My second favorite moments are when students see their hard work paying off. It is not easy but it is worth it in the end!
Your goal when working with kids with dyslexia?
My goal is for students to find their confidence. I want students to be able to read independently with ease. I also want to build advocacy skills for students with dyslexia. Students should be able to advocate for themselves to make themselves successful.
Your teaching style, personality?
Overall, I am a very passionate teacher. I care deeply about my students and their success. I am patient and laid back. I’m not afraid to laugh or have a good time. I believe having fun encourages learning.
