Teaching Experience

Hello! My name is Bhavika Modi, and I began my teaching career in 2013 after graduating from Texas Woman’s University with a degree in Elementary Education. I later earned my M.Ed. from Sam Houston State University to further deepen my knowledge and skills as an educator.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the joy of teaching kindergarten and second grade, and I also served as an ESL campus specialist before transitioning into the field of dyslexia. While in the classroom, I discovered a deep love for teaching kindergartners how to read and found purpose in helping struggling readers become confident, lifelong learners.

For the past five years, I’ve worked as a dyslexia therapist, and I truly enjoy every minute of it. I’ve had the privilege of working with both elementary and secondary students, guiding them not only in reading and writing, but also in building confidence and finding joy in their learning journeys.

Why did you decide to become a CALT?

I became a Certified Academic Language Therapist to help students learn to read. My motivation was deeply personal—my oldest daughter has dyslexia, and I wanted to be better equipped to support her learning journey. I’m so glad I took that step. It’s been incredibly rewarding to not only guide her, but also empower other students with the tools they need to thrive.

Favorite moment working with dyslexic students?

My favorite moments working with students with dyslexia are when I see them apply what they’ve learned in dyslexia therapy to their everyday classroom experiences. I feel so proud when they use the decoding strategies they’ve recently mastered to help them succeed in other subjects—and even more so when they excitedly share those moments with me!

Your goal when working with kids with dyslexia?

My goal when working with students with dyslexia is to guide and support them in a way that not only helps them become stronger readers and writers, but also nurtures their growth into confident, self-aware individuals who positively impact their communities.

Your teaching style, personality?

I am a patient and encouraging educator who believes in making learning both meaningful and fun. I set high expectations for my students because I truly believe in their potential. I challenge and support them in a way that empowers them to grow in confidence, resilience, and skill.

Any family details?

Outside of work, my husband and I live in Allen, TX with our two wonderful daughters, Navya (9) and Khrissy (6), and our sweet miniature Schnoodle, Olaf. Family time is everything to me, and our home is always filled with love, laughter, and plenty of puppy cuddles!
