Teaching Experience

I began my elementary education career in special education. From resource, to co-teach, to redirection, even self contained. I migrated to dyslexia, where I love helping students grow into great readers.

Age Range You Feel Most Comfortable With:
Most of my experience is with elementary, but I look forward to working with older growing readers as well.

Why did you decide to become a CALT?

The ability to read is fundamental to a strong prosperous life. It allows for growth in all other fields of study and interest, and is crucial for understanding the documents faced in adulthood.

Favorite moment working with dyslexic students?

Seeing them read for pleasure. Reading for them is usually tied to stress and frustration, and seeing them relate reading to positive feelings is amazing.

Your goal when working with kids with dyslexia?

To learn true skills that can be applied quickly, efficiently, and reliably to not only grow as an actual reader but to also not feel intimidated as they face unknown new words. On top of that… like I said above, to find enjoyment in reading.

Your teaching style, personality?

I like to do what I can to make the lessons enjoyable. It can be rather dry and boring which draws kids away from paying attention and thus losing focus. Keeping them engaged and enjoying the lesson helps their growth.

Any family details?

My 3 kids are high school and college age. Theatre productions, band performances, and not understanding their math anymore fills my free time.
