Age Range You Feel Most Comfortable With:
I feel comfortable with students of all ages, but have a deep love for Pre-k through 6th grade.
Why did you decide to become a CALT?
My passion for working with students with learning differences, especially those with dyslexia, grew out of my experience as a classroom teacher. I witnessed firsthand how many of my students struggled with reading and foundational phonics concepts, and I found great fulfillment in providing additional support through small-group instruction as part of MTSS. I especially loved being part of the process of identifying students with dyslexia and guiding them through targeted intervention. Watching their confidence and skills grow—particularly after beginning the Take Flight program—was incredibly rewarding. Supporting these students is more than a job to me — it’s a calling, and one I feel incredibly grateful to continue pursuing.
Favorite moment working with dyslexic students?
Dyslexia intervention has the power to truly change lives. One of my students, a sixth grader who had been in and out of foster care, was facing tremendous challenges both academically and emotionally. He struggled with behavior, often receiving suspensions and frequent visits to the principal’s office. At the time, he was reading on a kindergarten level, and it was clear he had never been given the tools he needed to succeed. After a year of intensive dyslexia intervention through the Take Flight program—and many extra hours spent working with him one-on-one—his reading level jumped multiple grades. But the most incredible transformation was in his confidence and behavior. He started staying in class, building positive relationships with peers, and—finally—was able to show how intelligent he truly was now that he could access the material. That experience reaffirmed everything I believe about the power of structured literacy. This work doesn’t just teach kids to read—it opens doors, changes trajectories, and gives them a chance to thrive. Take Flight is more than a program; it’s a lifeline.
Your goal when working with kids with dyslexia?
What I love most about teaching is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with my students and help them discover their own strengths. Watching a child grow not only in skills but in confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of this work. I especially love helping students find their voice—teaching them to believe in themselves and to advocate for what they need to be successful. There is something incredibly powerful about seeing a student go from unsure and hesitant to proud and self-assured, willing to speak up and take ownership of their learning. For me, teaching has never been just about academics—it’s about empowering kids to see their potential, celebrate their progress, and know that they are capable of achieving great things.
Your teaching style, personality?
My teaching style is rooted in creating a calm, nurturing, and supportive environment where every student feels seen, valued, and capable. I believe in meeting students exactly where they are—academically, emotionally, and socially—and guiding them forward with patience, love, and encouragement. Empowering students is at the heart of my approach; I strive to build their confidence and help them recognize their own strengths and potential. My classroom is a safe space where students are free to make mistakes, ask questions, and grow at their own pace. Above all, I lead with compassion and a deep belief in every child’s ability to succeed.
Any family details?
I come from a family with roots spread across the country, with extended relatives in California and my immediate family in Texas. I recently started a new adventure in Florida and feel lucky to have close friends here who feel like family, making the distance a little easier. I love spending time with loved ones, traveling, trying new restaurants, and relaxing at the beach.
Any extra anecdotal info you want to add?
I love working with kids and am passionate about the work dyslexia therapists do.
