Why did you decide to become a CALT?

Wanted to be able to teach students how to read more effectively.

Favorite moment working with dyslexic students?

I love watching my students build their confidence and self esteem. They become “brave” and take risk, knowing that it is okay to make mistakes. Seeing their eyes filled with pride when they finish reading a chapter or passage is so rewarding to me.

Your goal when working with kids with dyslexia?

Looking beyond test numbers and scores, I want my students to discover the love of reading. I want them to enjoy it and choose to read not because they have to. Reading is life skill and I want my students to discover that books are safe places to go and explore and discover different things. I don’t want them to feel like every time they read it is for a grade or assessment. Reading is such a fun and enjoyable adventure that dyslexia students do not often get to participate in, it is my job to show them that it can be!

Your teaching style, personality?

I am a very easy going, relaxed, yet structured teacher. I have a bubbly personality and love to laugh. It is so important to me to build relationships with my students and to always be considerate of their learning needs.

Any family details?

I have been married to my husband Jimmy for 29 years and we have 4 beautiful grown daughters and 5 dogs. We love spending times outdoors, traveling and having fun with our girls.
