Age Range You Feel Most Comfortable With:
I like working with kids in all age ranges.
Why did you decide to become a CALT?
I loved the training when learning the Take Flight program. Working with the dyslexic kids and seeing when they realize they can read was the most rewarding part of my teaching career. Dyslexia is something that can be overcome when students are provided with the appropriate tools.
Favorite moment working with dyslexic students?
Seeing the demeanor and confidence change as students learn to be successful at something they have always struggled doing. Watching as students start reading better without having to work to decode every word is the best feeling.
Your goal when working with kids with dyslexia?
My goal when working with students is building self confidence and an awareness of strengths each child has. I want to help them learn to read and hopefully build a love of reading. Making connections with kids and letting them know I believe in each student is important.
Your teaching style, personality?
I teach with flexibility along with procedural structure throughout lessons. Each child brings something different to the table. Finding the strengths and using those during instruction is beneficial to each lesson. Knowing where kids struggle allows for accommodations and supports to improve the learning experience which leads to better reading skills.
Any family details?
I have a daughter, son, and bonus daughter who are the light of my life. In addition to my human children, I have 2 dogs and 2 cats who I consider my children.
Any extra anecdotal info you want to add?
I love animals and work with local rescue groups through fostering and transporting. I also quilt in my spare time.
