Teaching Experience

I have taught all types of children in many school districts near Dallas and am currently employed as a Dyslexia Therapist in Richardson ISD. My first year teaching was in Fifth Grade Language Arts and Social Studies. I quickly realized that many of my students were reading on a first grade level, and I did not know how to help them. The next year, I taught second grade. One of my students was the child of missionaries and had never been in school. I didn’t know how to help him. College had not prepared me to teach students to read. It was then that I decided to become an expert in teaching reading, and I’ve been studying ever since! I was an elementary classroom teacher of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades for 17 years. I served as a Master Reading Teacher in Garland ISD and a Reading Specialist in Richardson ISD for a total of 6 years. As a reading specialist, I was able to work with students with dyslexia which led to my current position.
