Teaching Experience

My career started as a first-grade teacher and I fell in love with teaching students how to read. For the past 5 years, I have been a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), and worked with 4th and 5th graders.

Why did you decide to become a CALT?

My inspiration came from another dyslexia therapist who loved helping students and building their self-esteem at an early age. I believe that educators can leave a long-lasting impact in the lives of their students. As someone who struggled with reading, I will forever remember the teacher who took the extra time to help me after school.

Favorite moment working with dyslexic students?

I love witnessing my students build confidence and self-esteem as we work together. Often, my students are hesitant to read and it is an absolute joy to expose them to books written by dyslexia authors or about characters with dyslexia. Every milestone achieved is a victory, and we celebrate them together.

Your goal when working with kids with dyslexia?

My goal is for your child to be an advocate for themselves and gain the confidence to speak up about their dyslexia and know that it’s their unique superpower! Most of all I want to help children develop a love for reading.

Your teaching style, personality?

I love having fun with my students and being considerate of their unique needs.

Any family details?

My husband and I love taking adventures together. We have a golden retriever, Teddy, who is full of energy and loves going on hikes with us. Some of my favorite things to do are to watch sunrises and sunsets, they are breathtaking! I love taking some time to relax and read a great book while drinking some green tea.
