Age Range You Feel Most Comfortable With:
Elementary age is probably the most comfortable for me, but I am willing to work with any age.
Why did you decide to become a CALT?
I’ve seen the education pendulum swing many times during my career. I always felt frustrated when I would have a student that would struggle, despite all attempts to remediate.
Becoming a CALT, gave me the knowledge needed to better equip students to be successful at learning to read, no matter what other curriculum will be the “next best thing”.
Favorite moment working with dyslexic students?
A student told me not long ago…..”oh, this is all beginning to make sense, now!”
When they tell me they love my class, it brings me joy.
Your goal when working with kids with dyslexia?
My goal is for them to gain skills so they feel comfortable reading and writing. I want them to love reading!
Your teaching style, personality?
I do my best to connect with my students by asking them questions to get to know them better. I like to be a little silly sometimes to add fun to our time, while staying true to the structure of our lesson. I believe I give a warm and comfortable feeling with my students.
Any family details?
I’ve been married for 34 years and have two grown children. Both are married and the oldest has a son that is 19 months old. He is my little darling!
