Why did you decide to become a CALT?

I decided to drive into Dyslexia Therapy after one of classroom students went through a series of events to be diagnosed. Through the course of the school year, I found myself searching for all resources available so I could help this student succeed and ended the year with some confidence in Reading. As we worked with numerous resources and strategies, I knew I wanted to do more within the field of Dyslexia.

Favorite moment working with dyslexic students?

I would have to say my favorite moment working with students happens when he or she are reading confidently, and often times do not realizing they are reading. I often wait until the student finishes their reading to give high praises and have that mini celebration of achievement!

Your goal when working with kids with dyslexia?

My goal when working with my students is to let them know that I am here to help them. We are a safe place, mistakes will happen, we will try new strategies and some of it may be hard, but I am here to help. We are a team and I am cheering for you!

Your teaching style, personality?

My teaching style is very hands on. I strive to get to know my students and establish a routine and the best way to connect with them to help them reach their goals. Once you are a student of mine, you will always be called “one of my kids.”

Any family details?

I am married to my best friend and high school sweetheart! (Fun fact: We actually were in the same preschool class together!) We have 3 wonderful boys, and a Goldendoodle.

Any extra anecdotal info you want to add?

When I am not teaching, you can be sure to find me with my boys playing, baking or having a cup of coffee!
